Restylane Skinboosters for Glowing and Smooth Skin

0

We’ve all heard of skin boosting and we all think we know what that means. Restylane Skinboosters, however, offer something a little different for long-lasting skin rejuvenation. Written by Dr Michelle Emett

At any age, skin ageing is accentuated by the loss of luminosity in your face. Fortunately, this can be easily corrected with the use of Skinboosters – a procedure that helps the skin retain its glowing, smooth appearance we so desire.  Fine lines, skin texture and tightness are boosted in a single, painless brush stroke. I like to describe skin boosting to my patients as the ‘airbrushing’ and finessing of the skin.

The dermis comprises many components, including:

Collagen

  • Part of a large family of proteins
  • Accounts for 18% to 30% of dermal volume

Elastin

  • Has the ability to stretch
  • Gives the dermis its elasticity

Hyaluronic acid

  • A widely distributed glycosaminoglycan (sugar protein)
  • Can absorb over 1 000 times its weight in water
  • Adds volume to the skin surface

The triple combination of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid in the dermis provides structure, elasticity and volume to the skin, and contributes to its overall appearance. In Skinboosters, hyaluronic acid is the gel that keeps the scaffolding in place (which is a water-loving substance occurring naturally in the skin).

What are Skinboosters?

Restylane Skinboosters are neither filler nor topical treatments. They place stabilised hyaluronic acid into the skin’s dermis for a deeply nourishing and lasting effect. Skinboosters can be used for younger or more mature skin, for skin in need of hydration, or for sun-damaged skin.

They can additionally be used in a wide range of areas, including the face, neck, hands and décolletage. The procedure is not only for existing patients, as a complement to other aesthetic treatments, but it is also an excellent point of entry for patients taking their first steps into facial aesthetics.

Treatment methodologies

The treatment is done by a doctor and can either be injected directly into the dermis with a specialised machine called a skin injector, or it can be placed under the skin with a very thin tube called a cannula. The cannula will fan the Skinbooster under a large area of skin. With just 1 ml of Restylane Skinbooster, the doctor can rehydrate and plump the entire face.

The cannula method is my personal preference, as bruising is highly unlikely, provided the doctor is gentle. The patient leaves the clinic with a lasting treatment, with no telltale signs. It is a very cost-effective means of treating a full face. It offers safe, effective and predictable results. Skin boosting with a cannula is, in my opinion, the best method of treating accordion lines, which stretch from the lower cheek up into the eye area.

A third means of injecting Skinbooster, which is unique to the Restylane Vital and Vital Light products, is the ‘volume-control clicker’, which comes standard, integrated into every syringe. This feature allows the doctor to control exactly how much product is deposited into the skin. By using the fine needle supplied with the syringe, the doctor can go into each line, subscise (or lift) the line and inject a micro-droplet of watery filler into the line.

This process not only ensures the line remains lifted, but also stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen – a double effect with a single treatment. It allows the doctor to inject fine lines, such as around the mouth, without overfilling the patient’s upper lip. We all know the disastrous ‘duck-lip’ effects of overfilling this area. A tube of Restylane Skinbooster retails for between R2 500 to R3 000, depending on the method used by the doctor.

Try it

Skin boosting is a groundbreaking skin rejuvenation concept, showing lasting improvements in skin quality. It can be used in combination with collagen boosting treatments such as fractionated laser, Dermapen and peels. The boosting of collagen and hyaluronic acid work hand in hand to complement one another.  With each skin boosting treatment, the effects are cumulative and exponential. Take your skin for a lasting drink of water – every drop of Skinbooster is worth a thousand times its weight in rehydration and healthy skin stimulation.
