The Biomedical Emporium Gold Standard Retinol Needling Treatment

0

This treatment involves Collagen Induction Therapy (microneedling) combined with Retinol Serum by Biomedical Emporium. The retinol is essentially needled into the skin using the Dermapen system.

The treatment is designed to increase cellular rejuvenation and to boost collagen production.

Who is it for?

This treatment is ideal for hyperpigmentation, acne-prone skin, and advanced anti-ageing skin requirements. For scars it is recommended you go for a few sessions to see the full results.

What is Dermapen?

Dermapen is a brand name of a system of electronic microneedling, a process whereby the skin is punctured with needles to a pre-determined depth, with the aim of stimulating the skins innate healing system (collagen induction). The theory behind needling is that by making these punctures in your skin (what they call “creating a controlled skin injury”), your body will respond by sending collagen and elastin to heal the whole area, thus making it plumper, firmer and smoother. It can also reduce the appearance of scars, fine lines and wrinkles (including upper lip, around eyes), reduce under eye bags and stretch marks (on the body), improve skin laxity, under eye bags and uneven skin tone. It is also used as a hair loss treatment (by stimulating the scalp).

So, what is a retinol needling treatment then?

Needling creates the damage, whereas when you introduce a product i.e. needling a serum like retinol into the skin, you can yield even better results. Needling the product into the skin makes it more effective than just putting it on the skin topically because Needling allows it to penetrate deeper layers of the skin.

A product like Pure Retinol can only be applied by a doctor.

Is it painful?

No, it feels the same as a standard Dermapen needling treatment. However, a numbing cream is applied a few minutes before treatment to put patients at ease.

How long does it take?

From the time you arrive until the time you leave, it is 60 mins – this includes cleansing, prepping the skin, numbing cream etc. But the actual treatment needling time is 10mins.

Is there downtime?

Not really, you can still go about your normal daily activities the next day. Your skin is red and patchy immediately after but returns to normal within a few minutes/hours, but the level and length of redness will depend on your skin.

You will also start to experience mild flaking/peeling three days after the treatment and done by day seven. Your skin may feel a little dry and sensitive for a few days too. It is imperative to use a good moisturiser, wear sunscreen daily and stay out of the sun for at least four to five days (otherwise you risk hyperpigmentation).

Cost?

From about R1890.00 per treatment. Prices will depend on where you go. Something to note is this is a medical treatment to be performed by a doctor. DO NOT accept a Gold Standard Retinol Needling Treatment by non-doctor persons, it is not the real-deal, nor is it safe.
